Gordie Church, Private Guide, Safaris Unlimited Africa, Kenya

GORDIE CHURCH

Professional Safari Guide and Owner

Gordie was initiated into the safari world as a youngster. Born in Kenya and raised with the promise of adventure during every school holiday, he mastered the idiosyncratic skills of safari as a boy, helping the camp crew put up tents, pack trucks and saddle horses. He guided his first safari aged 18 and has over 30 years’ experience in the bush. Gordie’s formal education started at boarding school in Kenya where he was known for his mischievous ways, and continued in England ending at the Royal Agricultural College where he obtained a degree in Wildlife Management.
Today, his untamed love of all things wild and his passion and respect for Africa’s people and wildlife, make Gordie a fascinating and inspiring character. He is completely immersed in Africa. As a good friend once said, ‘a safari journey begins with a dream and ends with an extraordinary story.’

FELICIA CHURCH

Guide & Horsewoman

Felicia’s talents encompass all aspects of safari – she’s a fine equestrian, an inventive chef, a qualified Bowen therapist and engaging company. Guests can’t help but be enchanted by Felicia’s romantic story – she spent her childhood cantering through the verdant countryside of Leicestershire where her parents bred and raced horses and her brothers both became professional polo players. Felicia is not the first female of her blood to leave horseshoe tracks in the highlands of Kenya – legends of her illustrious grandmother whisper through the hillside communities: how she won the Timau cross country race in 1939 and which of the intrepid white hunters would return to her delicate embrace between expeditions. Later, Felicia’s mother too raced the same trails and was the first woman to raft the Mara River. Decades on, this family love affair with Kenya, is still ongoing, with Felicia inscribing new chapters of the Collie legend on the landscape and in the hearts of the Kenyan communities. Gordie and Felicia were married in the bush in 2014.
